When choosing a category to register for, athletes should consider these factors:
- Junior/Youth Elite
Youth Elite athletes (ages 12-16) will compete in a USAT Youth F1 format event. Junior Elite athletes (ages 16-23) will compete in a USAT Elite Development Race format event. Novice 16 year olds are encouraged to register for the Youth race and experienced 16 year olds are encouraged to register for the Junior event. For more details click on the Junior/Youth Elite tab. This is a “draft legal”** format event. All others should choose the “Age Group” category. - Elite Age Group
Athletes of any age who wish to start in the first age group wave should choose this group. This wave is comprised of the top athletes in the race. These athletes will be racing to win and are very competitive. If you are a beginner athlete, it is recommended you choose the “Age Group” category. - Team
This category is for groups of two or three who wish to compete together. In a team format only one athlete can participate in a discipline at a time. (Example: Swimmer=José, Biker=Mary, Runner=Latrell). Only one registration form is needed per team. Each team member must have a valid USAT Membership or purchase a one-day license to compete. - Age Group
The majority of athletes in the event will be in this group. Age group athletes start and compete against others their similar age.
** Draft legal is a format of triathlon where athletes are allowed to ride in the “draft zone” of other athletes on the bike, benefiting from “drafting” like NASCAR drivers.
