Junior/Youth Elite: 10 Important Rules to Remember!

  1. The pre-race briefing is mandatory.
  2. Time penalties assessed as “stop and go” with verbal warning.
  3. Wetsuits are not allowed above 20°C (68°F).
  4. Athletes must move forward after the start signal.
  5. Blocking or interfering with the forward progress of another competitor is not allowed.
  6. Athletes lapped on the bike course will be withdrawn from the competition.
  7. Helmet chin-strap must be buckled at all times while touching the bike.
  8. All equipment must be placed in your individual transition bin after use.
  9. Torso must be covered from race start to finish.
  10. Bicycle must have a traditional triangular frame; wheels must have at least 12 spokes; handlebars must be traditional drop-style with bar-ends plugged; clip-on aerobars may not extend beyond the brake levers’ foremost line and must be bridged; no bar-end gear shifters allowed; elbow pads are allowed; wheels can be replaced only at official Wheel Stops where provided and the athlete is responsible for replacing the wheel in the forks; no junior gear restrictions (as in cycling).

Uniforms @ USAT Youth Elite/Junior Elite Cups

  1. Torso must be covered from race start to finish.
  2. Last name and country code are not required on race suit.
  3. No limitations apply with respect to logo placements.
  4. Front zippers are allowed.  Tri shorts/tri top combo that covers the stomach is acceptable.
  5. The recommended race suit for men is a one piece “tri suit” with a rear zipper.    The recommended race suit for women is either a one piece swimsuit or a one piece tri suit.
  6. Athletes who intend to participate in international junior competitions (such as Pan American or World Championships) will need to comply with ITU Uniform Rules.  USAT recommends that you set up your race suit according to these rules at the beginning of the season to avoid confusion if you happen to qualify for an international racing opportunity, such as PATCO Junior Championships.  See www.triathlon.org/about/documents/
